I ended up visiting a fellow full-timer couple who were camp hosting at Cachuma Lake Recreational area. I only spent one night and I decided I will only do dry camping. They have full-hookup and partial hook-up sites as well. The tent sites are very spacious and quiet. You will see many stars in the sky during the night.
The camp has token showers, a nice store where you can buy anything for your camping needs and more. They have a mini gas station and propane as well. Unfortunately, the drought has the lake dried up so many of the things to do are limited. When we went many of the facilities were closed, which is the cause for my 3 stars.
The lake itself was on its 4 percentile, because of the drought. It’s very low. I was here during the week, so the park was pretty empty, not much going on. Even in the summer, I heard, you cannot swim in the lake but you can fish and rent boats. Nothing was open now.
You can also rent Yurts with spectacular views.
I was riding my bike around the campground, it is a very relaxing place. If you plan to stay for longer, Solvang, the little Danish town is nearby with great wineries and things to do all year round.
