I visited Lake Silverwood with a Meetup group for a weekend camping event. This recreational site in Hesperia, CA is host to a campground in a beautiful setting and is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. If you’re looking to go RVing, Silverwood Lake is a good option. They have a section with full hook-ups and another with primitive campsites. One car is allowed to park at each site for free, additional cars cost $10/day to park. The check-in time for campers is 2pm. Because of its many amenities, Silverwood Lake is a good campsite for novices, families with children, and anyone who wants to get outdoors without leaving all the comforts of home behind.

Some of the activities available at Silverwood Lake include hiking, biking, horseback riding, boating, fishing, diving, jet-skiing, and swimming. It’s important to note that if you bring a personal watercraft, boat, or inflatable to the water areas of the site, it will have to undergo an inspection. The inspection is free, quick, and is meant to protect the wildlife in Silverwood Lake.

If you want to rent a boat to go fishing or enjoy the water at Silverwood Lake, the on-site marina offers boat rentals as well as firewood, snacks, drinks, and camping items. Fans of fishing will find that Silverwood Lake has striped bass, largemouth bass, bluegill, trout, carp, catfish, and a number of other species. There are some limits to how many fish can be taken per person, with the exception of carp which has no limit. Fishers who are over 15 years old need a California fishing license, so it’s best to plan for that. The fishing at Silverwood Lake is great, and anglers are permitted to fish off the dock.

Another water activity that you can enjoy is swimming. The lake has two swimming beaches with a lifeguard on duty during summer, surrounded by picnic tables, a store, and bathrooms.  I visited in March, the lake was too cold to swim, but I imagine the summer can be nice.

The park is great for families because it holds family programs throughout the year and is a nice site for viewing the area’s wildlife. In addition to waterfowl and songbirds, the Bald Eagle, Canadian Geese, and raptors can be seen in the Silverwood Lake area.

Whether you decide to stay overnight, stay on your RV for days, or just visit for a few hours, Silverwood Lake has picnic areas and BBQ grills for visitors to use. You will create memorable memories staying here, I know I did. Met some awesome people and we discussed life while sitting around the fire in the evenings.  I really loved it.
