I ended up here because there was no more space at Crystal Grove State Park. I read reviews that it is very difficult to have spots without reservation but when I drove up to the window they said they have plenty of spaces. Maybe later in the summer, it is getting harder to stay here but not at the end of May, during the week.
I took different sites each day (if you don’t have a reservation you have to reserve your spot each morning). The first night I took spot 90 which was great views to the ocean. It was a very nice site but it was not level. (I don’t have leveling blocks, just ordered online). I think one of the best sites is #88 right next to the fence, right by the ocean.
I walked around the park, the trail to the beach was pretty steep and it goes under the train tracks. Actually, there are two trails, the right one is steeper than the left one.
The tent sites are $50 and the full hook-up RV sites are $75. They also have coin-operated showers.
There is a nice big day-use area the bike trail connects to the park. You can go down south on the parallel to i-5 on the old PCH and get to the Surf Beach or you can go up North and get to San Clemente Beach Trail which is pretty awesome.
Reception for Sprint and Verizon is very good, I was able to get some work done besides lying on the beach and biking around.
Most sites don’t have great views of the ocean, just the ones close to the fence on the west end. The sites are pretty close to each other but I didn’t mind. I had a very nice and peaceful stay at San Clemente State Beach. I would definitely come back again.
